Easy Does It: Nov and Dec 2021
Easy Come, Easy Go
The end of the year usually has me bugging out. I’m usually stressed and anxious, frustrated and nervous. I don’t know if I’m feeling less pressured and more secure because I’ve been putting some of my recent decisions into action, which is really the only real way to make a decision (I talked about that on Twitter a few weeks ago) or if I’m just over it. Over feeling stressed, anxious, frustrated, and nervous about things beyond my control. Most times, my frustration is just impatience anyway, and we been over that. We on Divine Timing over here: Everything is always right on time.
I’m riding this easy come, easy go attitude through the end of year. I’ve got events, classes, and publications on the way, a day job coming to a quick close for winter break in a few weeks, and exciting creative projects that got me hype, hopeful, and happy. I’m focusing on process over outcome these days, and it is making all the difference.
Join me for an upcoming panel, a Story Studio class, or just dig this old short story of mine that I recently rediscovered on the innanet. You can slide over to the media page, too, as there are some updates from my interview with Team Rayceen on YouTube and coverage of the publishing and editing panel at Eckerd I participated in a few weeks ago!
RISE: Underrepresented Voices in Writing and Publishing
Join me for a panel discussion at Tombolo Books in St. Petersburg, Florida, for a discussion on writing and publishing as it relates to access, representation, and literary citizenship.
Panel features Elizabeth Engelman, Yuly Restrepo Garcés, and Tenea D. Johnson, and moderator for the evening, Silk Jazmyne Hindus.
Thursday Nov. 4th, 2021 (7 - 8:00 p.m.)
Reckoning with Remembrance at Story Studio Chicago
We explore memory and research as tools for writing rich, resonant memoir and personal essay. Memory is swiss-cheesed up by nature, so how do we push beyond the limitations of memory to tell our story? Research and reflection help bridge the gap between what we remember and what we’re trying bring to the page.
Six weeks beginning TUESDAY, November 9th
(6:30 - 9 p.m. CT/7:30 - 10 p.m.)
